Celebrity Cruises’ higher daily gratuities took effect July 29, 2026. If you already have a sailing booked, open your reservation now and check whether you can still prepay; that is the practical decision, not the broader debate over tipping.
Celebrity’s guest email, as reported by Cruise Critic, says booked passengers may prepay gratuities at the current rate before sailing through My Celebrity Cruises. It does not provide a more specific universal cutoff, so confirm the amount and availability shown for your individual reservation.
What the reports say
Cruise Fever reports that Celebrity Cruises notified guests of a $1.50-per-person, per-day increase across cabin categories, effective July 29. The reported daily rates are:
- $19.50 for inside, ocean-view and balcony cabins
- $20.50 for Concierge Class and AquaClass
- $24.50 for The Retreat
Fox News also reports those rates, citing Celebrity’s gratuity policy, and says guests who do not prepay are automatically charged the higher daily amount. Both publications describe the increase as applying across the listed accommodation categories.
For a couple, the change is $3 more per day before any other purchases or tips. The final impact depends on sailing length and cabin category, so use the amount shown in your reservation rather than relying on an old quote or a booking screenshot.
Why prepaying deserves a look
If prepayment remains available on your booking and the displayed amount is acceptable, it can turn a variable onboard charge into a known trip cost.
That does not make prepayment the right move for every traveler. Some guests prefer to leave automatic gratuities in place and settle the full account onboard. Others want their cruise budget fixed before departure. The useful distinction is simple: make the choice while you can see the amount and terms attached to your own reservation.
Avoid assuming that an advertised cruise fare is your near-final total. Daily gratuities are charged per guest, per day, so they have more effect on a longer sailing or a multi-guest cabin than a headline fare comparison suggests.
Watch separate automatic charges
The daily gratuity is not the only service charge reported in Celebrity’s policy. Fox News says Celebrity automatically adds a 20% gratuity to beverages, beverage packages, specialty dining, room service, minibar items, and spa and salon services.
Those charges should be treated separately from the daily amount when you compare bookings. A beverage package or specialty-dining plan may look settled at checkout while still carrying an automatic gratuity under the policy cited by Fox News. Read the itemized total rather than assuming every charge is included in the base price.

- Confirm the daily rate displayed for your exact cabin category.
- Check whether prepayment is available and what total is shown before submitting payment.
- Review planned beverage, dining, spa, and room-service spending separately from the daily gratuity.
