Seabourn has announced a 2028 Ruby Collection of 54 voyages to mark its 40th anniversary. The program spans the cruise line’s ocean and expedition fleet, alongside Ruby Jubilee at Sea celebrations planned throughout the year.
The anniversary label is not the reason to book. The useful differences are itinerary-specific: Alaska calls and scenic cruising, an expanded Denali land journey, new Northern Europe and Asia ports, expedition voyages, short yacht-harbor itineraries, and the Cape-to-Cape World Cruise. Choose the sailing for those details; treat themed programming as an extra until Seabourn publishes sailing-specific plans.
What Seabourn has confirmed for 2028
Alaska is a strong itinerary story
Seabourn has announced Petersburg, Valdez and the wildlife-rich Chiswell Islands among its new Alaska calls and destinations. Holgate Glacier is a scenic-cruising experience, alongside returning scenic cruising at College Fjord. Summer Solstice sailings are built around extended daylight.
That combination may appeal more to a repeat Alaska visitor than a familiar one-week sequence with little variation beyond standard calls. Petersburg and Valdez broaden the coastal mix, while the Chiswell Islands, Holgate Glacier and College Fjord place more weight on scenery and wildlife viewing from the ship.
An Alaska sailing paired with the eight-day Denali Experience can be a better choice for travelers with sufficient time and budget for a genuine land-and-sea trip. Seabourn has confirmed flightseeing, a wildlife encounter and an exclusive dinner, but has not yet published all dates, hotels, pricing or daily routing. It should not be treated as interchangeable with a short independent add-on.
In Europe, time in port matters
Seabourn has identified late departures and evenings in Athens, Dubrovnik, Valletta, Portofino, Cadiz, Tarragona and Patmos. A late stay can turn a rushed daytime visit into dinner ashore or a more relaxed independent plan, but check the actual hours on the selected sailing.
The program also includes Baltic sailings round trip from Copenhagen, new Norwegian calls at Bodo and Narvik, and selected voyage combinations with longer time in Hamburg. Copenhagen round trips may simplify flights by avoiding an open-jaw itinerary. A Mediterranean departure with an evening in a city you want to experience after dark may be a better use of vacation time than an additional event at sea.
Check the day-by-day schedule before committing. A listed late departure has limited value if the call is too short for the shore plans that prompted the booking.
Asia rewards travelers who value overnights and specific events
The announced Asia additions are Yatsushiro and Muroran in Japan; Taichung and Tainan (Anping) in Taiwan; and Ko Samui in Thailand. Seabourn also lists a Southeast Asia holiday voyage visiting Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, returning calls at Yeosu and Incheon (Seoul), and overnights in Kobe, Osaka, Otaru, Kanazawa and Shanghai.
For a first Japan or Taiwan cruise, a new port name is not automatically the better booking. Focus on usable time ashore and whether an overnight supports an evening in a place you genuinely want to explore. The listed overnights offer more practical value than novelty alone for travelers tired of one-day samplers.
Seabourn has also announced a voyage timed around Taiwan’s Pingxi Lantern Festival. That sailing may suit travelers for whom the festival is the point of the trip, but exact port timing and shore-access details should be checked before treating attendance as assured.
Expedition voyages need an honest fit check
The expedition portion of the Ruby Collection covers Arctic and Antarctica voyages, including new calls at Tvøroyri in the Faroe Islands and Cape Clear Island in Ireland. The collection also includes the 96-day Grand Expedition: Pole to Pole and a shorter 82-day Arctic-to-Antarctica option.
These voyages suit travelers who value remote landscapes, wildlife and expedition activity over predictable port days. Weather exposure, rougher seas, changes to landings and a more active daily rhythm are part of the experience. Included expedition experiences can add value, but confirm what is included on the chosen departure and whether the cabin category offers enough space and comfort for a long voyage.
The Pole-to-Pole journey is a major time commitment, not simply a longer cruise. Consider flight arrangements at both ends, insurance, medical needs, laundry, sea days and whether 96 days away is realistic. The 82-day option may be more manageable for travelers who want both polar regions without the full voyage length.
The Yachtsman Collection suits shorter breaks
The Yachtsman Collection consists of seven-day Caribbean and Mediterranean yacht-harbor itineraries. These shorter voyages may suit travelers with limited vacation time, those who prefer fewer sea days, or those planning to combine the sailing with hotel nights before or after the cruise.
A seven-day itinerary is not automatically the easier trip. Compare the embarkation port, available flights, transfers, harbor calls, and total trip cost before assuming the shorter sailing is the more convenient booking.
The World Cruise needs its own decision process
Seabourn Quest’s 2028 Cape-to-Cape World Cruise sails 120 days from Miami to Southampton. A 112-day Miami-to-Lisbon option is also available. The itinerary covers 58 destinations in 23 countries across five continents, including Antarctica, Easter Island, the Falkland Islands and Cape Town, with important overnights. Guests booking the full 120-day or 112-day World Cruise receive an included mid-cruise Seabourn Journey to Machu Picchu. Travelers considering shorter sectors should confirm whether that inclusion applies.
Those details make the itinerary stronger for travelers who want a true multi-continent voyage rather than a collection of short sectors. Antarctica and Easter Island add significant destination value, while overnights can make independent exploration more practical. The included Machu Picchu journey adds meaningful value for guests booking either full World Cruise option.
A world cruise is not an anniversary add-on. Assess the time away, flights and transfers, medical and insurance arrangements, cabin comfort over an extended stay, and whether the 120-day route or 112-day option better matches your budget and obligations. A shorter sector may be the more sensible booking for travelers who want one or two standout regions without the operational demands of a full world cruise.
Treat Ruby Jubilee programming as a bonus
Seabourn says 2028 sailings will feature specialty events, signature experiences, themed parties and programming inspired by past eras. It also highlights a New Year’s Day 2028 Caviar in the Surf celebration at Carambola Beach involving two Seabourn ships.
Those touches may appeal to loyal Seabourn guests on a sailing they already want. They should not determine the booking ahead of useful itinerary features such as scenic cruising in Alaska, a Mediterranean late stay, an Asia overnight, expedition access or a world-cruise destination sequence.
Bottom line: choose the route, then enjoy the celebration
The Ruby Collection is not one uniform product. Strong candidates include Alaska sailings with meaningful scenic cruising and a Denali extension, European departures where port timing improves the day ashore, Asia voyages with overnights, polar expeditions that fit your activity level, and shorter Yachtsman Collection itineraries that work with your flight and hotel plans.
Read the selected sailing’s day-by-day route, inclusions, flight requirements and cancellation terms before paying a deposit. The Ruby Jubilee should remain the extra, not the reason to book.
