Virgin Voyages plans to homeport **Valiant Lady** in Amsterdam for its first Scandinavia and Baltics season, running July 9 to September 4, 2028, according to Virgin Voyages’ official 2028 Scandinavia and Baltics announcement. The deployment offers genuinely different Northern Europe trips: a Baltic cities sailing with a Stockholm overnight, a concentrated fjords week and an 11-night route into northern Norway and across the Arctic Circle. Published fares and cabin pricing were unavailable at the time of writing. Virgin Voyages says public sales open August 14, 2026; choose the route before weighing launch perks.
The 2028 sailings at a glance
Amsterdam is the practical advantage
According to Virgin Voyages’ announcement, Amsterdam is the embarkation and return city for the four Northern Europe voyages. That makes flight planning simpler than an itinerary requiring separate arrival and departure gateways. The two crossings differ: the July 9 sailing runs Barcelona to Amsterdam, while the August 25 sailing runs Amsterdam to Barcelona. Book either only with an open-jaw air plan in mind.
Virgin Voyages says the season includes 15 ports new to its fleet, from Oslo and Copenhagen to Flåm, Tromsø and Olden. That is notable for the brand, but maiden-call status is not a booking reason. Usable time ashore and the sequence of ports matter more.
The Stockholm overnight is the clearest Baltic advantage
Virgin Voyages lists the July 19 Scandinavia & Stockholm Overnight sailing as a 12-night itinerary with an overnight in Stockholm and departure the following afternoon. That creates time for the archipelago arrival, museums and neighbourhoods without trying to compress the city into one port day.
The same itinerary includes Copenhagen, Gdańsk, Warnemünde for Berlin and Aarhus. Virgin Voyages describes Berlin as reachable by direct train from Warnemünde. Treat Berlin as a long independent day or organised excursion, not a relaxed port stop.
Virgin Voyages lists late stays in Copenhagen and Hamburg on the seven-night Scandinavia & Hamburg voyage. It is a compact three-city break rather than a broad Baltic introduction.
Fjords or Arctic Norway? Pick the geography
Virgin Voyages lists Molde, Nordfjordeid, Flåm and Bergen on the July 31 Norwegian Fjords sailing. It is the better use of one week for travellers prioritising classic fjord scenery. It avoids capitals entirely, so it is a poor match for a mix of city sightseeing and Norway.
The 11-night Arctic Circle & Norwegian Fjords voyage goes further north, calling at Tromsø and Honningsvåg—Virgin Voyages’ gateway for North Cape—alongside Trondheim, Åndalsnes and Olden. Virgin Voyages also plans an Arctic Circle ceremony and midnight-sun deck party; the real value is the northern routing. It does not include Flåm, so travellers with that classic fjord rail journey high on their list should not assume the longer sailing is automatically stronger.
Lisbon differs by crossing direction
Virgin Voyages lists an overnight in Lisbon on the Barcelona-to-Amsterdam crossing, with a 6 p.m. arrival and 6 p.m. departure the next day. The Amsterdam-to-Barcelona sailing instead has a shorter 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lisbon call. That is a material difference, not a minor schedule detail.
The northbound crossing includes Casablanca; the southbound itinerary substitutes Tangier, according to Virgin Voyages. These are open-jaw European repositioning voyages with varied calls, not extensions of the Amsterdam round-trip programme.
Questions to answer before booking
- Once fares are published, does the price difference justify the overnight or northern routing you value most? - Does your air itinerary work better as an Amsterdam return or a Barcelona–Amsterdam open jaw? - Is Flåm essential, or would Tromsø and Honningsvåg make the Arctic route more rewarding? - Are transfers to Berlin from Warnemünde and North Cape from Honningsvåg realistic for your pace? - What deposit, cancellation and included-service terms apply to your fare?
