Build the cost of the whole trip

A cruise fare is only the starting point. The useful comparison is the total cost from leaving home to returning home, including the travel needed to reach the ship, the purchases made onboard, and the money spent during port days. A lower advertised fare can become the more expensive trip when flights, hotels, transfers, packages, gratuities, and shore plans are added.

Compare two sailings using the same assumptions. Use the same cabin occupancy, travel dates, drink habits, Wi-Fi needs, excursion style, and contingency allowance. That keeps a discounted fare from looking artificially cheap beside a more inclusive option.
